Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University junior forward
Nico Mueller (Braunschweig, Germany/Raabeschule Braunschweig) recorded his first career hat trick as the Flyer men's soccer team collected the 3-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Truman State University at Lewis Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 16) afternoon.
It is the first Flyer hat trick in two seasons as George Thomson scored three in a 3-1 victory over Alderson Broaddus on September 6, 2014. The Germany native scored in the 21st minute, 65th minute and 85th minute to help the Flyers to victory.
With the win, Lewis improves to 4-10 on the campaign and 3-9 in GLVC action, while the visiting Bulldogs drop to 5-6-3 overall and 3-6-2 in conference play.
Lewis freshman defender
Conor Mohr-Condron (Hamburg, Germany/Oberstufe Foorthkamp) and junior midfielder
Nicholas Monteiro (Brasillia, Brazil/School of the Nations) assisted on Mueller's second goal, while freshman midfielder
Mumen Hussein (Niles, Ill./Maine East) added a helper on the final score.
Lewis redshirt junior goalkeeper
Philip Huang (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) stopped five of the six shots he faced to earn the victory.
Truman redshirt sophomore defender Joel Reft headed in a Brian Kane corner kick at the 55:43 mark for the Bulldogs' lone score.
Lewis ends its regular season home campaign on Friday (Oct. 21), as the Flyers welcome Saint Joseph's to Lewis Stadium for a 5 PM kickoff.
