University Center, Mich. - The Lewis University men's basketball team was unable to avenge last year's season-ending loss to Saginaw Valley State, as the No. 4 Cardinals claimed the 82-71 regional victory over the visiting Flyers at O'Neill Arena on Thursday (Nov. 17) evening.
Lewis senior point guard
Miles Simelton (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) led three Flyers in double-figures with 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting. Flyer sophomore forward
Frank Vukaj (Davison, Mich./Davison) picked up a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, while junior forward
Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) had 13 points and six rebounds in the loss.
With the victory, Saginaw Valley State improves to 3-0 on the campaign, while the Flyers fall to 1-2.
Lewis shot better than SVSU for the game, as they held a 47.4% (27-for-57) advantage over the Cardinals' 46.2% (24-for-52). SVSU, however, was aided by 13 three-pointers and a 91.3% (21-for-23) performance from the free throw line.
The Flyers are back in action on Saturday (Nov. 19), as they head to Big Rapids, Mich., for a 4 PM ET tip-off against Ferris State.
