Quincy, Ill. -
Cristen Wilson's (Cleveland, Ohio, John Hay) tip-in with 54 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the Lewis University men's basketball team picked up the 65-63 win over Cedarville in the opening day of Quincy's QU Subway Holiday Classic at the Pepsi Arena on Saturday (Dec. 17).
Cedarville had two more opportunities to either tie or win, but a 30-foot three-point attempt by Patrick Bain (14 points) rimmed out at the buzzer.
Wilson (7 rebounds) and freshman forward
Donovan Oliver (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) (4-for-4 FG) each finished with 10 points and were a combined 9-for-10 from the field.
Senior guard
Miles Simelton (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) topped the Flyers with 13 points, while senior guard
Capel Henshaw (Harrisburg, Ill./Harrisburg) contributed 11 points off of the bench.
The victory extends Lewis' winning streak to four games and moves them to 6-4 on the campaign, while Cedarville falls to 5-5 on the season.
Lewis shot 45.2% (28-for-62) from the field, while the Yellow Jackets converted 39% (23-for-59) of their attempts. The Flyers held a 39-33 advantage over Cedarville in rebounds.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Dec. 18), as the Flyers take on Salem International at 1 PM in the final day of the Subway Holiday Classic.
