Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 23 Lewis University women's basketball team outscored Wayne State University, 24-4, in the third quarter as the host Flyers earned the 75-58 regional win over the Warriors at Neil Carey Arena on Monday (Dec. 19).
Lewis sophomore forward
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) had a game-high 16 points along with seven rebounds, four blocks and three assists to lead the Flyers offensively.
Lewis redshirt sophomore guard
Kayla Brewer (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee School of Languages) and freshman forward
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) each scored 14 points in the win. Brewer (6-for-7) and Hinders (7-for-8) combined to shoot 86.7% (13-for-15) from the floor.
Flyer redshirt senior guard
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) had 11 points, including three trifectas. Sophomore
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) had a game-high seven assists and redshirt sophomore
Erica Correa (Davie, Fla./The Sagemont School) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
With the win, Lewis improves to 10-2, while the Warriors fall to 4-7 on the campaign.
Lewis shot a season-high 59.6% (31-for-52) from the field and 54.5% (6-for-11) from three-point range. Wayne State, who shot 10% (2-for-20) from the field in the third quarter, finished the game with a 36.7% (22-for-60) field goal percentage.
Lewis returns to action on December 30th, as the Flyers welcome Saginaw Valley State to Neil Carey Arena for a 5 PM tip-off.
