PDF BoxROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Three Flyers finished with double-digit kills in No. 14 Lewis men's volleyball's 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-16) victory over McKendree on Thursday (Feb. 11) evening at Neil Carey Arena in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match.
Lewis hit at a .405 clip with senior
Scott Fifer (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) recording 49 assists. Freshman
Mitch Perinar (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) hit .417 with 18 kills while adding six digs and two blocks. Junior
Trevor Weiskircher (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic) hit .519 with 16 kills and eight digs. Freshman
Julian Moses (Atlanta, Ga./Atlanta International School) finished with 10 kills and eight digs on a .533 attack percentage.
Lewis lost the first set after McKendree out-hit the Flyers .500 to .233. However, each set McKendree's hitting percentage decreased. McKendree hit .423 in set two, .276 in set three and .111 in set four.
"In set one we weren't real clean on some opportunities both serve-receive wise and at the net," Lewis head coach
Dan Friend said. "We did make a shift with Julian to go in. We wanted to put some physicality on the front pin. I thought both Julian and Trevor responded really well."
The closest of the final three sets was the second. The Flyers were up only 20-18 when they put the frame away on a 4-0 run. Perinar had an ace in the run. Sophomore
Tom Beckmann (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High) had an ace for point 24.
McKendree falls to 1-3 (1-2 MIVA). Lewis improves to 9-4 (4-1 MIVA). The Flyers welcome No.9 Ohio State to Neil Carey Arena on Saturday. Match time is 7 p.m. for the Flyers' annual Black Out match against the Buckeyes. Fans are encouraged to wear black.
