Grand Rapids, Mich. - Lewis University freshman
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) broke a 4-all tie with a 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3 victory over Aquinas' Ryan Fedewa to help the Flyer men's tennis team to the 5-4 non-conference win over the host Saints at the MVP Sports Complex on Saturday (Feb. 20) morning.
With the win, Lewis improves to 2-0 on the campaign while the host Saints drop to 4-3 overall.
The Flyers received two victories from both freshman
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) and junior
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka). The duo paired up for the 9-7 victory over Aquinas' Kristoff Saari and Gunnar Peery at No. 1 doubles. Braschinsky also bested Saari, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, while Srdanovic claimed the 6-4, 6-0 win over Peery at No. 2 singles.
Lewis' final victory came at No. 4 singles, as sophomore
Ransom Braaten (Chicago, Ill./Lincoln Park) earned the 7-6, 6-2 win over Andy Struble.
"We didn't play well again in doubles, but our freshmen stepped up in singles and helped us get the job done," Lewis head men's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "Ransom and Brendan both had great wins in singles today."
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 21), as they meet Ferris State for a regional match-up in Big Rapids, Mich. First serve is set for 10 AM ET.
