Springfield, Mo. - The Lewis University men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches on its way to the 6-3 regional victory over Newman University at the Cooper Tennis Complex on Saturday (Feb. 27) afternoon.
"I'm very proud of the guys with the quick turnaround from last night because everyone stepped up," Lewis head men's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "It started with our doubles play and that allowed us to clinch (the win) early in singles."
With the win, Lewis improves to 4-1 overall, while Newman falls to 1-3 on the campaign.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis'
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) and
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) paired up for the 8-5 win over Newman's Jose Enrique Coiras and Eduardo Santos. Srdanovic also beat Santos, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1 singles, while Braschinsky handed Max Pyle a 6-2, 6-0 defeat at No. 2 singles.
Lewis' No. 2 doubles tandem of sophomore
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and freshman
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) dished out an 8-5 win over Andre Ebinal and Pyle. Peterson went on to upend Coiras, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
The Flyers' final victory came at No. 3 doubles, as freshmen
Anton Levitin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) and
Chandler Stimpert (Graceland, Ill./Morton) beat Newman's Ajani King and Kevin Clack, 9-8 (2-0).
Lewis returns to action on Monday (Feb. 29), as the Flyers head to Arkansas for a 1 PM first serve against Arkansas Fort Smith.
