Springfield, Mo. - Despite a pair of victories from both sophomore
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) and senior
Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora), the Lewis University women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 regional decision to Newman University at the Cooper Tennis Complex on Saturday (Feb. 29) afternoon.
"We need to regroup as a team and get ready for our next match," Lewis head women's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "We did not play well today."
With the win, Newman improves to 4-1 overall, while the Flyers drop to 2-2 on the campaign.
Mindiyarova paired up with sophomore
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy) at No. 1 doubles and earned the 8-0 win over Newman's Ariana Raga and Vanessa Brill. Mindiyarova also beat Brill, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
Nguyen and fellow senior
Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) picked up the 9-8 win over Newman's Kateryna Stoianova and Kate Bugayenko at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 singles, Nguyen defeated Tamar Tskhakaia, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
Lewis returns to action on Monday (Feb. 29), as the Flyers will battle Arkansas Fort Smith. First serve is set for 1 PM.
