Rosemont, Ill. - Wayne State All-America pitcher Lyndsay Butler (2-0) tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout and struck out seven batters as the Warriors edged the Lewis University softball team, 2-0, in the Dome Invitational at The Dome At The Ballpark on Saturday (Feb. 27) afternoon.
"We definitely worked hard and saw some great things out there today," Lewis head softball coach
Becky Pearl said. "We have nothing to hang our heads about.
"Wayne State had an excellent game and we have to be ready to go with our bats and that's what we plan to do (on Sunday).
With the win, Wayne State improves to 3-1 on the campaign, while the Flyers are now 2-2.
Wayne State scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI single by center fielder Allie Buchanan and on a throwing error by Lewis starting pitcher
Paige Fossey (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton).
In her first collegiate start, Fossey (0-1) allowed two runs - one earned - and six hits while fanning one in six innings of work.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 28) morning, as they battle Lindenwood at 9 AM in the final day of the Dome Invitational.
