St. Charles, Mo. - The Lewis University softball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 6-2 loss to Maryville in the Great Lakes Valley Conference season opener, but the Flyers (11-8, 1-1 GLVC) regrouped for the 6-5 victory over the host Saints (9-3, 1-1 GLVC) at Lindenwood's Lou Brock Complex on Friday (March 11) afternoon.
  "It seems like we come out ready to go, but we forget that its a seven-inning game sometimes," Lewis head softball coach
Becky Pearl said. "I do, however, like the way we opened up game two, but thankful we were able to hang on."
  Lewis stays in St. Louis and takes on Missouri-St. Louis for a 12 PM doubleheader on Saturday (March 12).
Game One

Jenna Cairo (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) helped spearhead the Flyers to a 2-0 lead over Maryville in the GLVC opener, but the host Saints answered with six unanswered runs to claim the 6-2 win at the Lou Brock Complex on Friday.
  Cairo went 2-for-4 along with a RBI and scored a run to lead the Flyers. Sophomore left fielder
Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and junior designated player
Dani Knaak (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) both went 2-for-3 in the loss for the Flyers.
  Maryville junior pitcher Nikki Taylor tossed five innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for the Saints. Taylor (2-for-2, 3 RBI, run) added a two-run, game-tying home run in the fourth inning. Maryville first baseman Bri LIvingston put the Saints up for good with a two-run double off of Schweickert in the fifth inning.
  Schweickert allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings of work, while fanning three batters in a losing effort.

  Five different Flyers recorded at least two hits as they rapped out 13 baseknocks in Game Two. Prieto and junior shortstop
Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) both went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, while Knaak went 2-for-4, including a two-run triple in the first inning.
  Cairo went 2-for-3 with two runs, while freshman third baseman
Jessica Lofthouse (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run for the Flyers in the win.
  Lewis senior pitcher
Ali Brems (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) picked up the win for the Flyers, despite surrendering five runs and 13 hits - including two home runs to Maryville starting pitcher Nikki Taylor (2-for-3, 4 RBI, 2 runs).
  Taylor was tagged with the loss, as she allowed five runs and six hits in 2.2 innings of action.
