Plainfield, Ill. - The No. 39 Lewis University men's tennis team battled its way to the 7-2 regional victory over Wayne State at the Five Star Tennis Center on Saturday (March 26).
Four of the six singles matches went three sets with the Flyers winning three of those battles.
With the win, Lewis improves to 8-5 on the campaign, while the visiting Warriors drop to 5-9.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' tandem of junior
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) and freshman
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) picked up the 8-4 win over Wayne State's Clement Charriere and Taylor Vane. Srdanovic also dropped Mohamed Fazyl Kechai, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Braschinsky beat Charriere, 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 2 singles.
Lewis' tandem of sophomore
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and freshman
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) paired up at No. 2 doubles for the 8-2 win over Wayne State's Harvey Reed and Ryan Carlson. Norasith defeated Vane, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, while Peterson outlasted Reed, 6-2, 3-6, 10-0 at No. 4 singles.
Lewis' final victory came at No. 6 singles, as freshman
Anton Levitin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) bested Derek Sammons, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 14-12.
Lewis returns to action on April 2nd, as the Flyers head to Louisville for a 11 AM ET first serve against Bellarmine in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener.
