Belleville, Ill. - After falling behind 2-1 after doubles play, the No. 39 Lewis University men's tennis team rattled off four straight wins in singles action to claim the 5-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over McKendree University at Southwestern Illinois College on Friday (April 15).
With the win, Lewis improves to 11-7 overall and 3-1 in conference action, while the host Bearcats fall to 11-11 on the campaign and 1-3 in GLVC play.
Lewis sophomore
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and freshman
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) carried the load for the Flyers as they collected two wins apiece. Norasith and Peterson teamed up at No. 2 doubles for the 8-5 win over McKendree's Abel Moreno and Ross Price. Norasith went on to claim a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Maico Egbers at No. 3 singles, while Peterson clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Ethan McCafferty at No. 4 singles.
The Flyers received victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles from junior
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) and freshman
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma). Srdanovic bested Ben Muller, 6-3, 7-6 (4) at No. 1 singles, while Braschinsky claimed the 6-4, 6-3 win over Moreno at No. 2 singles.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (April 16), as the Flyers head to the state capital for an 11 AM first serve with Illinois Springfield.
