Springfield, Ill. - The No. 39 Lewis University men's tennis team received two victories apiece from junior
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka), sophomore
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and freshman
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) en route to the 6-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over Illinois Springfield at Washington Park on Saturday (April 16).
With the win, Lewis improves to 12-7 on the campaign and 4-1 in conference play, while the host Prairie Stars fall to 10-11 on the season and 0-5 in GLVC action.
Norasith and Peterson paired up for the 8-2 win over UIS' Ajay Bandreddy and Christian Timm at No. 2 doubles. Norasith added a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Santiago Pedraza at No. 3 singles, while Peterson bested Timm, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
Srdanovic and freshman
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) collected the 8-3 win over Cole Buehnerkemper and Sam Clark at No. 1 doubles. Srdanovic went on to beat Buehnerkemper, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.
Lewis' final victory came at No. 5 singles, as freshman
Chandler Stimpert (Graceland, Ill./Morton) upended Grant Fitzsimmons, 6-2, 7-6 (2).
Lewis returns to action on Friday (April 22), as they welcome Southern Indiana in the final GLVC regular-season match-up. First serve is set for 2 PM at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
