Springfield, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches with the 6-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Illinois Springfield at Washington Park on Saturday (April 16).
With the win, Lewis improves to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in GLVC action, while the host Prairie Stars fall to 8-12 on the campaign and 2-3 in conference play.
Lewis' nationally-ranked tandem of sophomores
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy) and
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) claimed the 8-0 shutout over Jane Carter and Faith Hook at No. 1 doubles. Andrejszki knocked off Carter, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, while Mindiyarova dropped Sharon Danquah, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
The Flyers' senior duo of
Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and
Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) collected an 8-5 win over Jasmin Morgan and Danquah at No. 2 doubles. Nguyen bested Morgan, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles, while Wetmore was victorious over Hook, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
Lewis returns to action on Tuesday (April 19), as they host North Central in a non-conference match-up at 2 PM.
