Louisville, Ky. – The No. 39 Lewis University men's tennis team earned a 5-4 victory over Bellarmine in its Great Lakes Valley Conference season opener at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex on Saturday (April 2) afternoon.
"The guys were mentally tough and found a way to win today in very tough and windy conditions," Lewis head men's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said.
With the victory, the Flyers improve to 9-5 on the season and 1-0 in GLVC action, while the Knights fall to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play
At No. 1 doubles, the No. 14 duo of Lewis junior
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) and freshman
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) edged Bellarmine's Zachary Kuo and Jose Legarreta, 9-8. Srdanovic also earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Legarreta at No. 1 singles, while Braschinsky completed the 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 comeback victory over Kuo at No. 2 singles.
Lewis sophomore
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and freshman
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) paired up for the 8-4 triumph over Nathan Walroth and Matthew Momper at No. 2 doubles. Norasith added a 6-0, 6-1 win over Momper at No. 3 singles.
The Flyers return to action on Wednesday (April 6), as they travel to Bourbonnais, Ill. to face Olivet Nazarene. First serve is set for 3:30 PM.
