Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University women's tennis team finished the regular-season on a nine-match winning streak as they cruised past the University of Southern Indiana, 8-1, on Friday (April 22) at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Flyers improve to 15-4 on the season and 6-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, while the Screaming Eagles fall to 7-11 overall and 3-2 in GLVC action.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis sophomores
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy) and
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) earned the 8-1 victory over USI's Elizabeth Wilm and Brenna Wu. Andrejszki added a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Wilm at No. 1 singles, while Mindiyarova downed Kelsey Shipman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Flyer seniors
Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and
Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) paired up for the 8-2 win over USI's Kymberly Brannon and Shipman at No. 2 doubles. Nguyen also earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Wu at No. 3 singles, while Wetmore defeated Brannon 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
The Flyers return to action Friday (April 29) as they will host the 2016 GLVC Tournament (April 29 – May 1). Time and opponent to be announced later.
