McKendree Sweeps Lewis Softball, 7-2 And 9-7 In GLVC Twinbill

Flyers leave 12 runners on base in opener; Bearcats rally from four run deficit in the fifth inning in nightcap.

Lebanon, Ill. - McKendree University (17-19, 11-7 GLVC) scored six unanswered runs in both games of its Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader against Lewis University, as the Bearcats picked up the 7-2, 9-7 sweep over the visiting Flyers (15-21-1, 4-13-1 GLVC) at Bearcat Field on Sunday (April 3).
"I saw a lot of good things out there today, but little mistakes add up and that's why we're on the short end of today's doubleheader," Lewis head softball coach Becky Pearl said.
Lewis returns to action on Wednesday (April 6), as the Flyers will complete last week's halted game against UW-Parkside at 3 PM at UW-Parkside's Case Complex. The second game of the twinbill was tied at 7-apiece before it was halted due to darkness.

McKendree starting pitcher Holly Magre went the distance for the Bearcats to earn the victory. Magre allowed two runs and 10 hits, while striking out eight batters. Her counterpart, Lewis' Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) surrendered seven runs and nine hits in a losing effort.
Lewis sophomore left fielder Kaylie Prieto led the Flyers offensively, as she went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run.
