Park Forest, Ill. – The Lewis University women's tennis team was firing on all cylinders on Wednesday (April 6), as they won 5-1 over non-conference opponent Olivet Nazarene at the Park Forest Tennis Club.
With the win, the Flyers improve to 9-4 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 3-6 on the campaign.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' sophomore tandem of
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) and
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy) won 9-7 over ONU's Seraphine Buchmann and Priscila Nunez. Andrejszki also earned a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Nunez at No. 1 singles, while Mindiyarova added a 7-6 (1), 6-0 victory over Viktoria Monakhova at No. 2 singles.
Lewis seniors
Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and
Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) paired up for the 8-6 victory over Monakhova and Faith Huckabee at No. 2 doubles. Nguyen added a 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over Buchmann at No. 3 singles.
The Flyers return to action on Friday (April 8), as they face Saint Joseph's for a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup. First serve is set for 12:30 PM at the Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill.
