ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 13 Lewis men's volleyball celebrated Senior Night with a victory on Saturday (April 9). All four seniors made significant contributions in Lewis' 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-19) victory over IPFW in the regular season finale for both squads.
Senior
Patrick Lilly (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) hit .333 with a match-high 12 kills and eight digs with three blocks and an ace. Senior setter
Scott Fifer (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) dished out 33 assists with three kills and four blocks. Senior
Will McCall (Fellsmere, Fla./Sebastian River) notched four kills and four digs. Senior
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) had eight kills and four blocks.
"All four of those guys have been here the past four or five years and have been tremendous," Lewis head coach
Dan Friend said. "They've meant a lot to the program."
The match featured only two lead changes, both came in the second set. IPFW used a 7-2 run to take a 10-9 lead and force a Lewis timeout. The Flyers responded by scoring seven of the next 10 points to take control of the set for good.
Lewis out-hit IPFW .256 to .093. Freshman
Michael Simmons (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) had 13 digs for the Flyers.
Saturday's match was the third time this season the Flyers didn't surrender a single ace.
IPFW falls to 10-18 and 3-13 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. Lewis finishes the regular season 17-12 (10-6 MIVA). The Flyers have won double-digit MIVA matches in four consecutive seasons.
Next up for the Flyers is the 2016 MIVA Tournament. Lewis is the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 seed Grand Canyon on Friday (April 15) in a Quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. in Neil Carey Arena.
