Big Rapids, Mich. - The Lewis University women's soccer team was aided by two Ferris State own goals as the visiting Flyers earned the 3-0 regional victory over the host Bulldogs in the season opener at Top Taggart Field on Thursday (Sept. 1) afternoon.

With the win, Lewis improves to 1-0 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-1 on the campaign.

Ferris State scored on its own net in the 27th minute and the 87th minute. Lewis freshman midfielder Mallory Richardson (Bartlett, Ill./Westminster Christian) scored her first career goal at the 69:46 mark off assists from senior Jessica Chavez (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) and freshman Payton Emond (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove ).

Lewis redshirt junior goalkeeper Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) made seven stops to earn the shutout victory for the Flyers.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 3) as the Flyers head to University Center, Mich., for a 12 PM ET kickoff with Saginaw Valley State.
