Normal, Ill. - The Lewis University women's swimming team split its season-opening meet, as the Flyers lost to host Illinois State (184-92), but rebounded for the 206-82 win over Illinois Wesleyan.

Shannon Sullivan (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and senior
Kaitlyn Yearout (Ocala, Fla. /Trinity Catholic) each led the charge for the Flyers with a victory and a second-place finish. Sullivan won the 100-yard freestyle (53.62) and took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.62).
Yearout swam a leg of the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:19.70) with sophomore
Meghan Beese (Glen Ellyn, Ill. /Glenbard South), freshman
Emily Pickett (Surprise, Ariz./Willow Canyon) and junior
Makenzie Murphy (Reno, Nev./Galena). Yearout added a runner-up finish in the 50-yard butterfly (28.12).
The Flyers are back in action on Oct. 15 to face Truman State for their first conference match-up of the season. The meet is slated to begin at 1 PM in Kirksville, Mo.
