Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team shot 58.6% (17-for-29) in the second half and committed just one turnover, as the Flyers held off a hot shooting Missouri-St. Louis squad for the 76-73 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Jan. 12) night.
UMSL shot 69.2% (18-for-26) from the field in the final 20 minutes and 57.7% (30-for-52) for the game. Lewis knocked down 49.2% (30-for-61) of its field goal attempts and drained 11 three-pointers on the evening, while committing a season-low seven turnovers.Â
With the win, Lewis improves to 10-5 overall and 5-0 in GLVC play, while the visiting Tritons are now 8-8 on the campaign and 2-4 in conference action.
Lewis senior guard
Miles Simelton (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) led all scorers with 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting. The Oswego, Ill., native drained three trifectas and dished out a team-best five assists.
Lewis sophomore swingman
Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) and freshman guard
Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) each scored 14 points in the win. Pischke knocked down four of his five three-point attempts.
Flyer sophomore center
Frank Vukaj (Davison, Mich./Davison) finished with 12 points and a team-best five rebounds and three blocks.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 14), as the Flyers welcome Maryville to Neil Carey Arena for a 3 PM tip-off.
