Evansville, Ind. - Southern Indiana used a 22-0 run in the second half to claim the 85-65 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the No. 24 Lewis University women's basketball team at the Physical Activities Center on Saturday (Jan. 21) afternoon.
Southern Indiana took advantage of 23 Lewis turnovers, leading to 30 Screaming Eagle points. USI also knocked down 86.2% (25-for-29) of its free throw attempts.
With the win, Southern Indiana improves to 16-3 overall and 8-1 in GLVC action, while the Flyers fall to 14-5 on the campaign and 6-3 in conference play.
Lewis sophomore forward
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) finished with 22 points on 10-for-16 shooting.
Redshirt senior guard
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) finished with 18 points, including three trifectas, while senior guard
Alyssa Siwek (Palos Heights, Ill./Mother McAuley) finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Flyers shot 45.1% (23-for-51) from the field and 30.8% (4-for-13) from three-point range, while USI converted 43.3% (26-for-60) of its field goal attempts and 40.0% (8-for-20) of its long range shots.
Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 26), as the Flyers welcome McKendree to Neil Carey Arena for a 5:30 PM tip-off.
