Romeoville, Ill. - The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced on Thursday (Jan. 27) that former Lewis University cross country and track and field great Kasia Arient has been inducted into the GLVC Hall of Fame.

This is Arient's second Hall of Fame induction in the past year, as she was elected to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Track and Field Athlete Hall of Fame in May of 2016.

Arient is one of four inductees who will be honored, including Indianapolis' Lyndsay McBride (women's golf) and SIU Edwardsville's Ed Huneke (men's soccer coach) and Jonathan Bannister (track and field).

The GLVC Hall of Fame Class of 2017 will be honored at the Enterprise/GLVC Spring Awards Banquet at the Drury Plaza Hotel in St. Louis on Tuesday, May 23rd.

In all, Arient captured a total of six national championships during her three-year stay at Lewis (1996-99), including the 1997 NCAA Cross Country Championship, helping the Flyers tie for second overall as a team. She was a two-time Cross Country All-American, three-time All-Midwest Region honoree and two-time GLVC Champion (1996, '98).

On the track side, Arient collected five individual national championships, including winning back-to-back national championships in the outdoor 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs in 1997 and 1998. She also added the 1997 indoor 5,000-meter run national championship for good measure. Arient was a two-time GLVC Indoor 5,000-meter run champion in 1997 and 1998 and also claimed the 1999 10,000-meter crown.

This is the third-straight year that a former Lewis student-athlete has been named to the GLVC Hall of Fame as Robin (Martz) Hammer (softball) was selected in 2016 and former pole vaulter Duane Chappell (men's track and field) earned that distinction in 2015.
