Miles Simelton (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) and sophomore swingman
Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) combined for 44 points and eight three-pointers as the Lewis University men's basketball team garnered the 96-83 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over McKendree at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Jan. 26) night.
Simelton was 10-for-14 from the field, including three treys and a team-high five assists, to finish with a game-high 23 points. Blaylock knocked down five three-pointers to finish with 21 points in the victory.
Lewis sophomore center
Frank Vukaj (Davison, Mich./Davison) was 6-for-8 from the floor to finish with 14 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. All eight Flyers that scored, contributed at least six points in the victory.
With the win, Lewis improves to 12-8 overall and 7-3 in GLVC action, while the visiting Bearcats drop to 7-10 on the campaign and 1-8 in conference play.
Lewis shot 55.7% (39-for-70) from the field and 60% (12-for-20) from three-point range. McK shot the ball equally as well, connecting on 53.3% (32-for-60) of their shots and 50% (11-for-22) from beyond the arc. Those 10 extra Flyer shots can be credited to 12 offensive rebounds that led to 14 second chance points for Lewis.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 28), as the Flyers welcome UIS to Neil Carey Arena for a 3 PM tip-off.
