Romeoville, Ill. - Three goals in the first 22:16 from
Nico Mueller (Braunschweig, Germany/Raabeschule Braunschweig) gave the Lewis University men's soccer team a 3-2 win over Quincy Friday (Oct. 20) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Lewis Stadium.
The first of those goals came in the ninth minute of the game when a
Floris Blom (Zwolle, Netherlands/Centre for Sports and Education) pass went to
Konrad Malinowski (Arlington Heights, Ill./Wheeling), who headed it to Mueller, who found the back of the net.
Lewis took a 2-0 in the 18th minute when Malinowski stole the ball from a Hawk and found Mueller for the goal.
Quincy got on the board in the 21st minute when Michael Timmermann found the back of the net from 20 yards out to make it 2-1.
The Flyers (10-4, 9-3 GLVC) weren't done though as Mueller scored off his own rebound in the 23rd minute for a 3-1 lead. Mueller has scored the past five goals for Lewis.
Quincy (5-9, 4-8 GLVC) made it a one goal game in the 76th minute on a Anthony Christante's diving header from an Aubrey Reis pass.
Lewis was able to hold off the Hawks from there to pick up its seventh win in eight games.
Philip Huang (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) made five saves in goal to pick up his 10th win of the season.
The Flyers are back at home Sunday (Oct. 22) for 'Senior Day' against Truman State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 PM at Lewis Stadium.
