Romeoville, Ill. - Quincy University senior forward Mackenzie Rief broke a scoreless tie in the 87th minute to lift the No. 14 Hawks to the 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Lewis University women's soccer team at Lewis Stadium on Friday (Oct. 20) night.
Rief took a crossing pass from freshman forward Maddie Bauer from 15-yards out and beat Lewis goalkeeper
Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) for the game-winner at the 86:36 mark.
With the victory, Quincy improves to 13-2 overall and 10-1 in GLVC action, while the host Flyers fall to 6-7-2 on the campaign and 4-6-2 in conference play.
Lewis outshot Quincy, 19-18, but the Hawks held a 14-7 advantage in shots on goal. Lewis freshman forward
Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) accounted for eight of those shots, including four on frame.
Meyer made a career-high 13 saves in the loss.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 22), as the Flyers will celebrate 'Senior Day' against Truman State. Kickoff is set for 12 PM at Lewis Stadium.
