Romeoville, Ill - In the wind and the rain, the Lewis University women's soccer team tied Truman State 2-2 (2 OT) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match Sunday (Oct. 22) at Lewis Stadium.
The Flyers (6-7-3, 4-6-3 GLVC) took advantage of having the wind at their back in the first half, outshooting the Bulldogs (6-5-5, 6-4-4) 11-2 in the half and scoring the lone goal of the half on a shot from
Sidney Riemer (Grafton, OH/Midview), her first goal of the season, in the 44th minute.
Truman got on the board early in the second half as Paige Peterson scored from 25 yards out in the 50th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Lewis answered back quickly in the 52nd minute as
Christine Szymanski (Orland Park, Ill/Sandburg) played a ball into of the middle of the field, which
Mallory Richardson (Bartlett, Ill./Westminister Christian) played to
Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill. /Boylan Central Catholic), who beat the goalie with a header for her fourth goal of the year to give Lewis a 2-1 advantage.
Peterson came back for the Bulldogs with another goal from 25 yards out in the 66th minute to tie the game at 2-2.
Neither team found the back of the net the rest of the game.
Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) made six saves in goal for the Flyers.
Lewis concludes the regular season Wednesday (Oct. 25) when it travels to Drury for a 12 PM start.
