Tuscaloosa, Al. - Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy) and
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) won their opening match for the Lewis University women's tennis team Friday (Oct. 27) in the Roberta Allison Invite, hosted by the University of Alabama.
The duo defeated Michelle McKamey and Olga Zavarotnaya of Indiana 6-4 to advance to the winners bracket in the Baili Camino Draw.
Simone Parn (Parnu, Estonia) and
Oana Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand) fell to Katherine Cao and Lina Hohnhold of Memphis 7-5 in the opening round of the Marouschka Van Dijk Draw.
In singles, Andrejszki fell to McKamey 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 in the opening round but rebounded to beat Lenka Antonjevic 6-3, 6-0 in the Dominique Glinzler Draw.
Mindiyarova lost to Arianna Beltrame of Samford 7-5, 6-2, but came back to top Mima Curcic of Alabama State 6-4, 6-0 in the Stacey Dodd Draw.
Trus dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match to Matea Mihaljevic of Troy before beating Emma Love of Indiana 6-0, 6-1 in the Cantillon Brasington Draw.
Parn dropped her lone match of the day, 2-6, 7-6 (12), 10-8 to Julie Strief of Tennessee-Martin in the Karen Gaiser Draw.
The tournament concludes Saturday (Oct. 28).
