Romeoville, Ill. - A second half goal by Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill. /Boylan Central Catholic) provided the difference Sunday (Oct. 8) as the Lewis University women's soccer team defeated Wisconsin-Parkside 1-0 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Lewis Stadium.
Parnello found the back of the net from 10 yards out in the 69th minute on a pass from Mallory Richardson (Bartlett, Ill./Westminister Christian) to provide the game's lone goal.
It was the first goal of the season for Parnello.
The win moves the Flyers to 5-5-2 overall, 4-4-2 in the GLVC. UW-Parkside falls to 2-9-1, 1-7-1 in the GLVC. The Flyers remained unbeaten at home, moving to 3-0-2.
Lewis outshot UW-Parkside 14-10 for the game. Mackenzie Fuller (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) led the Flyers with four shots on goal.
Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) made seven saves in goal to pick up her fourth shutout of the season.
Lewis goes back on the road Sunday (Oct. 15) to take on Illinois-Springfield at noon.
