Romeoville, Ill. - The debut for Lewis University women's basketball coach
Samantha Quigley Smith was a success as the Flyers took down Hillsdale 94-80 Friday (Nov. 10) at Neil Carey Arena.
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North)Â totaled 27 points and eight rebounds, while
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) added 21 points and seven rebounds for the Flyers (1-0).
Kelliher shot 9-of-15 from the floor, 7-of-8 from the free-throw line and attempted and made the first three-pointer of her career, finishing 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Hinders went 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.
Tierney Lockett (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) contributed 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting and
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) had 11 points and five assists.
Lewis shot 51.6% (32-for-62) from the floor and was 88% (22-of-25) from the line, while Hillsdale shot 48.3% (29-of-60) from the floor.
The Flyers outrebounded Hillsdale (0-1) 35-28 and forced 19 Hillsdale turnovers.
After a 48-40 lead at the half, Lewis extended the lead to 72-54 after three quarters, its biggest lead of the game, and maintained a double digit lead the remainder of the game.
Lewis is back at home Sunday (Nov. 12) for a 1 PM tip against Northern Michigan.
