Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team used an all-around second-half effort to pick up the 82-59 regional victory over Northern Michigan at Neil Carey Arena on Sunday (Nov. 12).
The Flyers shot 61.5% (16-for-26) from the field in the second half, while Northern Michigan knocked down just 17.9% (5-for-28) of their shots in the final 20 minutes.
Lewis junior forward
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) scored a game-high 33 points on 14-for-24 shooting. Kelliher grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, while dishing out five assists and adding two steals.
Lewis sophomore forward
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) was 7-for-8 from the floor to finish with 17 points, while junior guard
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) scored 11 points and dished out a game-high eight assists.
With the win, Lewis improves to 2-0 on the campaign, while the Wildcats fall to 1-1 on the season.
For the game, Lewis shot 60.4% (32-for-53) from the floor and 46.2% (6-for-13) from long range. NMU converted 36.8% (21-for-57) of its field goal attempts and 18.8% (3-for-16) from beyond the arc.
Lewis forced 18 Wildcat turnovers - including 11 steals - leading to 30 points off of the NMU miscues. The Flyers limited their mistakes with nine turnovers for the entire game, coupled with 25 assists.
Northern Michigan guard Darby Youngstrom led the Wildcats with 14 points in the loss.
Lewis opens its road campaign on Friday (Nov. 17), as they head to Michigan for a 6 PM ET tip-off against Northwood.
