Midland, Mich. - Northwood University converted 28 free throws and outrebounded the Lewis University women's basketball team, 41-30, on its way to the 86-75 regional victory over the visiting Flyers at Riepman Arena on Friday (Nov. 17).
Northwood guards Maddy Seeley (25 points) and Lindsay Orwat (23 points) combined for 48 points. Both Seeley and Orwat hit three trifectas in the victory for the Timberwolves.
With the win, Northwood improves to 1-2 on the campaign, while the Flyers fall to 2-1 overall.
Lewis junior forward
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) and sophomore forward
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) also combined for 48 points in the loss.
Kelliher went 10-for-14 from the floor to finish with a game-high 25 points, including six rebounds and four assists. Hinders knocked down nine shots, including two three-pointers, to finish with 23 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Flyer junior point guard
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) scored 10 points, followed by nine points and a team-best five assists from junior guard
Tierney Lockett (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South).
As a team, Lewis shot 46.6% (27-for-58) from the floor and 36.8% (7-for-19) from three-point range. Northwood knocked down 43.9% (25-for-57) of its shots and 32% (8-for-25) of its long-range attempts.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Nov. 19), as the Flyers head to Allendale, Mich., for a 1 PM ET showdown with Grand Valley State.
