Midwest Region All-Tournament Team
Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 4 Lewis University women's volleyball team ended its season Saturday (Dec. 2) with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 29-27) loss to Rockhurst in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional championship game at Neil Carey Arena.
After winning the first set, the Flyers dropped the next two. However, they appeared to battle back in the fourth set, taking a 19-12, which led to a Rockhurst timeout.
The Hawks (31-7) went on a 12-3 run from there to take a 24-22 lead. Lewis fought off five set points for Rockhurst until a kill ended the match.
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) tallied 14 kills and four block assists for the Flyers.
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) added 12 kills, 17 digs and three block assists, while
Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) had nine kills and 11 digs.
Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) totaled 45 assists and 16 digs, while
Ronni Katarzynski (Winfield, Ill./West Chicago) dug 26 balls.
Rockhurst hit .134 (58-of-187) to .112 from Lewis (53-of-188).
Schneider and Seliga were Midwest Region All-Tournament selections.
The Flyers' season ends with a 33-3 record, a program-record .917 winning percentage and the first ever American Volleyball Coaches Association No. 1 national ranking earlier in the year.
