University Center, Mich. - Kayla Brewer (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee School of Languages) scored 26 points and
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) added 25 points as the Lewis University women's basketball team won at Saginaw Valley State, 74-45 Saturday (Dec. 30) at O'Neill Arena.
Brewer shot 9-of-17 (52.9%) from the floor and 6-for-11 (54.5%) from beyond the arc to set a career high for points. Her previous career mark was 16 points against Indianapolis on March 4, 2017.
Kelliher shot 10-for-14 (71.4%) from the floor, marking the 10th time on the season she has scored at least 20 points. She also posted her third double-double of the year, finishing with 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks.
The Flyers (9-4) shot 27-for-60 (45%) for the game from the floor, while Saginaw Valley State (2-10) went 17-for-56 (30.4%). Lewis outrebounded the Cardinals 48-28 and forced 18 turnovers.
A 9-0 first quarter run helped helped Lewis to a 22-12 lead at the end of the period.
Lewis finished the second quarter on a 13-1 run to lead 47-22 at the half.
That run continued to open the third quarter, turning into a 22-1 run as the Flyers led 56-22 early in the third quarter, their biggest lead of the game.
After playing nine of their first 13 games on the road, the Flyers return home, where they are 4-0 on the season, to play host to Illinois-Springfield on Thursday (Jan. 4) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at 5:30 PM.
