Romeoville, Ill. - Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) scored 30 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Lewis University women's basketball team defeated Illinois Springfield 82-59 Thursday (Jan. 4) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Neil Carey Arena.
Kelliher, the reigning GLVCÂ Player of the Week, shot 12-for-17 (70.6%) from the floor and added two blocks on the defensive end.
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) added 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI)Â had 10 points and six assists.
Kayla Brewer (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee School of Languages) tallied three steals and
Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago)Â blocked four shots.
The Flyers (10-4, 3-1 GLVC) outrebounded the Prairie Stars (8-3, 2-1) 47-34 for the game.
The Lewis defense had eight steals and six blocks, while limiting UIS to 33.3 percent shooting (20-for-60).
Meanwhile, Lewis shot 30-for-61 (49.2%) from the floor.
The Flyers never trailed in the game, scoring the first six points of the game and led 24-14 after the first quarter.
The lead grew to as many as 19 points in the second quarter before the Flyers took a 42-25 lead at the break.
Lewis maintained a double digit lead throughout the third quarter and led 61-42 heading into the fourth.
UIS got to within 12 points at 67-55 with 5:56 left in the game, but five straight points from Kelliher put the game away.
Lewis moves to 5-0 on the season at home, but will be back on the road Saturday (Jan. 4) when it travels to Truman State for a 1 PM tip.
