Kristen Gillespie earned her 100th career victory as the Flyer women's basketball team collected the 71-66 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Rockhurst University at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse on Saturday (Feb. 4).
Lewis sophomore forward
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) turned in a dominant performance with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Flyers.
Lewis redshirt senior guard
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) nearly missed a double-double with 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists, while freshman forward
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) pitched in 13 points and five rebounds.
With the win, Lewis improves to 18-5 overall and 10-3 in GLVC action, while the host Hawks drop to 13-7 on the campaign and 8-5 in conference play.
Lewis held a significant advantage on the glass, with a 42-30 rebounding advantage. The Flyers recorded 14 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points.
The Flyers shot 43.9% (25-for-57) from the field and 37.5% (6-for-16) from three-point range. Rockhurst knocked down 40.7% (24-for-59) of its shots, including a 33.3% (6-for-18) performance from beyond the arc.
Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 9), as the Flyers welcome Truman State to Neil Carey Arena for a 5:30 PM tip-off.
