Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team grabbed a season-high 48 rebounds and shot over 50% from the field on its way to the 94-73 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Truman State at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Feb. 9) night.
The Flyers, led by a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds from junior forward
Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay), outrebounded the Bulldogs, 48-30.
Lewis shot 52.2% (35-for-67) including a 50.0% (12-for-24) showing from long range.Truman State shot 40.0% (28-for-70) from the floor and 28.6% (8-for-28) from beyond the arc.
With the win, Lewis improves to 16-8 overall and 11-3 in GLVC action, while the Bulldogs drop to 17-7 on the campaign and 9-5 in conference play.
Lewis senior guard
Miles Simelton (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) and sophomore
Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) combined for 49 points and each hit four three-pointers in the victory. Simelton was 11-for-15 from the field to tie a season-high with 26 points, while Blaylock nearly missed a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds.
Lewis freshman center
Anthony D'Avanzo (Harwood Heights, Ill./Notre Dame) also nearly missed a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 11), as the Flyers welcome Quincy to Neil Carey Arena for a 3 PM tip-off.
