Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University softball team displayed its offensive prowess as the Flyers rapped out 28 hits on their way to the 9-6, 10-8 Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader sweep over Maryville University at the Lewis Softball Field on Saturday (March 25).
With the sweep, Lewis is now 18-9 overall and 6-2 in GLVC play while the Saints drop to 14-14 on the campaign and 4-4 in conference action.
Lewis returns to action on Tuesday (March 28), as the Flyers head to Michigan for a 3 PM ET doubleheader with Grand Valley State.
GAME ONE
Lewis 9, Maryville 6

Lewis scored seven runs in the third inning - highlighted by a
Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) grand slam - and never looked back in the 9-6 win.
Sanders (13-1) picked up the complete-game win for the Flyers, as she allowed six runs and 12 hits, while fanning six batters.
Eight different Flyers recorded hits and six different players registered at least one RBI. Lewis junior catcher
Sarah DeMasi (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) went 3-for-4 with a solo home run with two runs scored, while freshman right fielder
Emily Guske (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) went 3-for-4 and scored a run in the win.
Lewis sophomore first baseman
Carley Maupin (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) and junior left fielder
Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist) each went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Maupin also drove in a run for the Flyers.

Lewis sophomore designated hitter
Alise Perna (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) went 3-for-4 with three runs and hit the go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning to help the Flyers rally for the 10-8 victory.
DeMasi and senior shortstop
Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) each went 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored a run, while Prieto was 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.
Lewis senior pitcher
Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) scattered eight runs - six earned - and five hits, while striking out four batters in six innings of work to earn the win. Sanders tossed a scoreless seventh inning to receive the save.Â
