Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State pitching staff limited the Lewis University softball team to seven hits in two games as the host Lakers claimed the 1-0, 8-0 (5 inn.) regional doubleheader sweep over the Flyers at GVSU Softball Field on Tuesday (March 28).
With the sweep, Grand Valley State improves to 11-13, while the Flyers fall to 18-11 on the campaign.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (April 1), as the Flyers welcome Saint Joseph's to the Lewis Softball Field for a 12 PM doubleheader.
GAME ONE
Grand Valley State 1, Lewis 0

Grand Valley State second baseman Jenna Lanza drove in the lone run of the game with a 2-out, 2-strike RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the host Lakers to the 1-0 regional victory.

Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) took the loss in the circle for the Flyers, allowing just one run and five hits, while striking out six Lakers.
Lewis junior left fielder
Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist) recorded two of the four hits allowed by GVSU starting pitcher Allison Lipovsky.
GAME TWO
Grand Valley State 8, Lewis 0 (5 inn.)
WP - Balbach (2-6); LP - Fossey (1-6)
Grand Valley State pitcher Ellie Balbach tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout and the Lakers scored five runs in the fourth inning to clinch the 8-0 (5 inn.) win over the Flyers.
Lewis starting pitcher
Paige Fossey (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) was tagged with the loss for the Flyers, surrendering seven runs and six hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Flyer senior shortstop
Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) went 2-for-2 at the plate in the loss.
