Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University softball team split its Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader with Saint Joseph's at the Lewis Softball Field on Saturday (April 1), as the host Flyers dropped the opener, 6-3, while coming from behind for the 8-7 (9 inn.) win over the Pumas in the nightcap.
With the split, Lewis is now 19-12 overall and 7-3 in GLVC action, while the Pumas are now 10-17 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (April 2), as the Flyers welcome No. 14 Indianapolis for a 12 PM doubleheader.

Saint Joseph's took Lewis pitchers deep four times as the Pumas claimed the 6-3 win over the Flyers in the opener.
Lewis junior left fielder
Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist) went 2-for-4 with a double and triple, drove in a run and scored a run for the Flyers.
Flyer starting pitcher
Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) took the loss, allowing three runs and five hits in three innings of work. Sanders struck out six batters and issued a pair of walks.

Sarah DeMasi (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) - who homered earlier in the game - connected for a walk-off fielders choice to help the Flyers complete the 8-7 (9 inn.) win over Saint Joseph's in the nightcap.
DeMasi was able to bat in the ninth inning, thanks to the two-run, game-tying home run from from freshman third baseman
Kendyl Strack (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) in the bottom of the eighth inning to even the score at 7-apiece.
Lewis reliever
Paige Fossey (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) picked up the win for the Flyers, allowing three runs and four hits in 5.2 innings of work. Fossey struck out one batter and issued three walks.
Flyer freshman right fielder
Emily Guske (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) and sophomore first baseman
Carley Maupin (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) each went 3-for-4 and drove in a run in the victory.
Lewis also received a pair of hits and a run from senior center fielder
Carolyn Nojiri (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and sophomore designated player
Alise Perna (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley).
