Clermont, Fla. - The Lewis University softball team split in opening day action of their annual Florida trip with a 6-0 win over Urbana, while dropping a 5-2 decision to Minnesota State in the nightcap.
With the split, Lewis is now 4-3 on the campaign, while Minnesota State improves to 13-3 and Urbana is 0-3.
Lewis returns to action on Monday (March 6) against both Northwood (1 PM ET) and Ferris State (3:30 PM ET).

Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) needed.Â
Sanders (2-0) earned the complete-game, shutout victory for the Flyers, allowing five runs and striking out 13 batters.

Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI to lead Lewis offensively, while senior center fielder
Carolyn Nojiri (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) had two RBI and scored a run.

Minnesota State's Coley Ries was nearly flawless as she struck out 19 batters and allowed just three hits in the Maverick victory.
Lewis' only blow of the game came off of the bat of junior catcher
Sarah DeMasi (Lockport, Ill./Lockport), as she ripped a two-run double.

Paige Fossey (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) took the loss for the Flyers. Fossey (0-2) surrendered five runs and 10 hits in 5.2 innings of action.
