No. 8 Southern Indiana Sweeps Lewis Softball, 4-1 and 2-1

Flyers held to nine hits in doubleheader.

Evansville, Ind. - The Lewis University softball team managed just two runs and nine hits, as No. 8 University of Southern Indiana collected the 4-1, 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader sweep over the visiting Flyers at USI Softball Field on Saturday (Apr. 15).

With the sweep, USI improves to 38-8 overall and 17-5 in GLVC action, while the Flyers fall to 22-21 on the campaign and 10-12 in conference play.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 22), as they head to Liberty, Mo., for a 12 PM doubleheader against William Jewell.

Lewis freshman third baseman Kendyl Strack (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) provided the only offensive highlight for the Flyers with a solo home run.

Flyer starting pitcher Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) took the loss, allowing four runs and seven hits in five innings of work.

Lewis cut USI's lead in half in the seventh inning, but the rally fell short as the Flyers stranded the go-ahead run on second base to end the game.

Strack drove in the lone run for the Flyers.

Sanders was tagged with the loss for Lewis, allowing two runs and seven hits in six innings.
