Kansas City, Mo. - The Lewis University softball team snapped its five-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over Rockhust in the opening game of their Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Sunday (Apr. 23), before the Hawks picked up the 7-1 victory over the Flyers in the nightcap at Loyola Park.
With the split, Lewis moves to 23-22 overall and 11-13 in GLVC action, while the Hawks are now 29-19 on the campaign and 18-6 in conference play.Â
Lewis returns to action on Monday (Apr. 24), as they head to Liberty, Mo., for a 12 PM GLVC twinbill against William Jewell.
GAME ONE
Lewis 5, Rockhurst 3

Lewis broke open a 2-all tie in the top of the seventh with three runs - highlighted by a
Kendyl Strack (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) RBI single - to push the Flyers to the 5-3 win over the host Hawks. Strack went 2-for-4 at the dish - including a double -Â for the Flyers.
Lewis starting pitcher
Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) scattered three runs and eight hits, while fanning two to pick up her 16th win of the season.
Flyer freshman right fielder
Emily Guske (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) went 2-for-4 and scored twice, while sophomore first baseman
Carley Maupin (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) drove in three runs.
The Flyers also received a pair of base knocks - including a double - from senior shortstop
Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont).

Following a lead-off home run by junior left fielder
Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist), the Lewis University bats were held in check, as Rockhurst pitcher Bridgette Sappington limited the Flyers to five hits the rest of the way in the Hawks' 7-1 victory in the nightcap.

Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) took the loss for Lewis, allowing three runs and five hits in four innings of work.
