Liberty, Mo. - The Lewis University softball team split its Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Monday (Apr. 24) against William Jewell, as the Flyers rallied for the 4-3 (8 inn.) win in the opener, but dropped a 3-2 decision to the Cardinals in Game Two at the Spratts Complex.
With the split, Lewis moves to 24-23 on the season and 12-14 in GLVC action, while the host Cardinals are now 25-23 on the campaign and 14-12 in conference play.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 29), as the Flyers welcome Drury to Lewis Softball Field for a 12 PM twinbill.

Carley Maupin (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) broke a 3-all tie in the eighth inning with the go-ahead sacrifice fly to lift the Flyers to the 4-3 (8 inn.) win over William Jewell in the opener.
The Flyers, who were trailing 3-2 in the seventh inning, tied the game on a RBI single by junior left fielder

Lewis freshman third baseman
Kendyl Strack (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) connected for her third home run of the season - a two-run shot - in the fourth inning.
Flyer starting pitcher
Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) claimed the complete-game victory, scattering three runs and seven hits, while striking out eight batters.

All five runs scored were the results of home runs, as William Jewell notched a solo and a two-run blast, compared to two solo shots from the Flyers, en route to the 3-2 win.

Sanders took the loss in relief, allowing four hits - including both home runs - and striking out one batter in four innings of work.
