Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team snapped Southern Indiana's 10-game win streak with a 5-1 victory over the Screaming Eagles in the opener, but USI bounced back for the 4-2 (10 inn.) triumph over the Flyers in the nightcap of the Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Brennan Field on Saturday (Apr. 22).
With the split, Lewis is now 11-28 overall and 5-13 in GLVC action, while the Screaming Eagles move to 23-15 on the campaign and 14-4 in conference play.
Both teams will conclude the four-game set on Sunday (Apr. 23) with a 12 PM doubleheader.

Lewis pitchers
Pete Hamot (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and
Jake Herron (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) combined to limit USI to one run and eight hits, while striking out eight in the 5-1 victory.
Hamot held the Screaming Eagles scoreless through seven innings, allowing six hits and striking out five to pick up the win. Herron allowed one run and two hits, while fanning three to earn the save.
Flyer senior center fielder
Brandon Collins (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Way North) paced the Lewis offensive attack, going 2-for-4 with two runs and a solo home run.
Junior third baseman
Trayvon Johnson (Berkeley, Ill. /St. Joseph's) went 2-for-4 with a RBI, while junior second baseman
Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) picked up a pair of hits. Collins, Johnson and Tyrell all stole one base in the opener.

Southern Indiana 4, Lewis 2 (10 inn.)

Southern Indiana scored two runs in the 10th inning, including a solo home run by first baseman Nathan Kuenster, to claim the 4-2 victory over the Flyers.
Lewis reliever
Nick Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) took the loss for the Flyers, surrendering two runs and five hits in three innings of action.
The game was able to go to extra innings, as Lewis first baseman
Kenny King (Orland Park, Ill./Providence ) recorded a game-tying two-run homer in the sixth inning to even the score up at 2-apiece. Flyer left fielder
Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere) added a pair of singles in the loss.
