Liberty, Mo. - The Lewis University men's soccer team exploded for three first-half goals, including a pair of penalty kick conversions by sophomore midfielder
John Horstman (Godfrey, Ill./Marquette Catholic), as the visiting Flyers claimed the 4-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over William Jewell College at Greene Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 10).
The Flyers also received goals from senior forwards
Nico Mueller (Braunschweig, Germany/Raabeschule Braunschweig) and
Juan Elizalde (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom).
Lewis sophomore midfielder
Timm Adler (Frankenthal Rheinland-Pfalz Germany/Karolinen-Gymnasium Frankenthal) assisted on Mueller's goal at the 21:49 mark, while freshman midfielder
Dorian Moreno (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) provided the helper for Elizalde's score in the 58th minute.
With the win, Lewis improves to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in GLVC action, while the host Cardinals are now 0-2 overall.
Lewis outshot William Jewell, 14-2 and held an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Sept. 15), as the Flyers host Missouri S&T for Latin American Night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM at Lewis Stadium.
