Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University senior forward
Nico Mueller (Braunschweig, Germany/Raabeschule Braunschweig) scored the golden goal in the 95th minute to help the host Flyers to the 2-1 overtime victory over Missouri S&T in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match-up at Lewis Stadium on Friday (Sept. 15).
Mueller took a long pass from senior
Floris Blom (Zwolle, Netherlands/Centre for Sports and Education) and was quickly tackled by a Miner defender. Mueller got up immediately and fired the game-winner past Missouri S&T goalkeeper Aaron Hohenstein (5 saves) at the 94:46 mark.
Mueller also assisted on the game's opening goal as he found freshman forward
Konrad Malinowski (Arlington Heights, Ill./Wheeling) for the score. Blom also assisted on that play.
With the win, Lewis improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in GLVC action, while the Miners fall to 1-3-1 on the campaign and 0-3 in conference play.
Lewis goalkeeper
Philip Huang (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) made four saves to earn the victory.
Missouri S&T outshot Lewis, 17-15, while the Flyers held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 17), as they welcome No. 19 Maryville to Lewis Stadium for a 2:30 PM kickoff.
