Springfield, Ill. - The No. 3 Lewis University women's volleyball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with the 27-25, 25-20, 25-20 win over Illinois Springfield at The Recreation & Athletic Center on Thursday (Sept. 14).
With the win, Lewis improves to 8-1 on the campaign and 1-0 in GLVC action, while the host Prairie Stars drop to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Lewis junior outside hitter
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) recorded a match-high 15 kills and nine digs, while hitting .379 (15 kills, 4 errors, 29 attacks).
Flyer senior middle hitter
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) followed with 12 kills and hit .318 (12-5-22), while sophomore outside hitter
Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and a match-high 13 digs.
Lewis redshirt junior setter
Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) finished with a match-high 37 assists to go along with her seven digs. Lewis outdug UIS, 62-52.
The Flyers hit .288 (53-17-125), while UIS notched a hitting percentage of .162 (38-17-130).
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 16) with home matches against Kentucky State (10 AM) and No. 25 Rockhurst (1 PM).
