Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) was all the Flyers needed as the women's soccer team earned the 1-0 victory over Missouri S&T in the Great Lakes Valley Conference home opener.
Havelka-Vanderplow gathered a rebound off of a shot by Flyer sophomore forward
Payton Emond (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) and put it past Miners keeper Liz Carrano (4 saves) at the 13:17 mark. Lewis senior midfielder
Mackenzie Fuller (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) also assisted on the play.
With the win, Lewis improves to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in GLVC action, while the Miners fall to 0-5 on the campaign and 0-3 in conference play.

Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) did not face a shot to earn her first shutout of the season.
Lewis outshot Missouri S&T, 9-4, including a 5-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 17), as the Flyers welcome Maryville to Lewis Stadium for a 12 PM kickoff.
